Said of a man: he was, or became, warm, or hot — generally the first of these; see دِفْءٌ below. Or he felt heat; or he wore what made him warm, or hot.

The last of these verbs, originally اِدْتَفَأَ, is of the measure اِفْتَعَلَ. They are said of one who has clad himself in what makes him warm, or hot; or the meaning of استدفأ بالثوب is that he wanted warmth by means of the garment.
اِدَّفَيْتُ and اِسْتَدْفَيْتُ also occur, for ادّفأت and استدفأت, meaning I wore what made me warm, or hot.
