, aor. يَخُولُ , inf. n. خَوْلٌ , He became possessed of خَوَل [so I read, meaning slaves, or servants, and other dependents, in the place of خوال , an evident mistranscription, in the TA,] after having been alone. (TA.) فُلَانٌ يَخُولُ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ Such a one pastures for his family: (S:) or يَخُولُ عَلَيْهِمْ signifies he milks and waters and pastures for them. (T, TA.) Now, when trouble touches man, he cries to Us: But when We bestow a favour upon him as from Ourselves, he says, "This has been given to me because of a certain knowledge (I have)!" Nay, but this is but a trial, but most of them understand not!

And sometimes they said تخوّلتِ الرِّيحُ الأَرْضَ, that is, تَعَهَّدَتْهَا, apparently meaning: the wind returned to the land time after time.

I paid frequent attention to them with exhorting, or admonishingتَخَوَّلْتُهُمْ بِالمَوْعِظَةِ

Plural أَخْوَالٌ and أَخْوِلَةٌ [both plurals of paucity], the latter irregular; plurals of multitude خُوَّلٌ, خُؤُولٌ and خُؤُولَةٌ.

The feminine is خَالَ, a maternal aunt, one's mother's sister; its plural is خَالَاتٌ.

It is no fault in the blind nor in one born lame, nor in one afflicted with illness, nor in yourselves, that ye should eat in your own houses, or those of your fathers, or your mothers, or your brothers, or your sisters, or your father's brothers or your father's sisters, or your mother's brothers, or your mother's sisters, or in houses of which the keys are in your possession, or in the house of a sincere friend of yours: there is no blame on you, whether ye eat in company or separately. But if ye enter houses, salute each other - a greeting of blessing and purity as from Allah. Thus does Allah make clear the signs to you: that ye may understand.

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِنَّآ أَحْلَلْنَا لَكَ أَزْوَٰجَكَ ٱلَّـٰتِىٓ ءَاتَيْتَ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ مِمَّآ أَفَآءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ وَبَنَاتِ عَمِّكَ وَبَنَاتِ عَمَّـٰتِكَ وَبَنَاتِ خَالِكَ وَبَنَاتِ خَـٰلَـٰتِكَ ٱلَّـٰتِى هَاجَرْنَ مَعَكَ وَٱمْرَأَةً مُّؤْمِنَةً إِن وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِىِّ إِنْ أَرَادَ ٱلنَّبِىُّ أَن يَسْتَنكِحَهَا خَالِصَةً لَّكَ مِن دُونِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۗ قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا فَرَضْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ فِىٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ لِكَيْلَا يَكُونَ عَلَيْكَ حَرَجٌ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated (from Makka) with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and the captives whom their right hands possess;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

A maternal uncle; one's mother's brother: (JK, S, K:) pl. أَخْوَالٌ (S, Msb, K) and أَخْوِلَةٌ , (K,) [both pls. of pauc.,] the latter anomalous, (TA,) and (of mult., TA) خُوَّلٌ and خُؤُولٌ (K) and خُؤُولَةٌ : (Msb, K:) the fem. is خَالَ , (JK, S, K,) a maternal aunt; one's mother's sister: (JK, S:) and the pl. of this is خَالَاتٌ . (Msb.) One says, هُمَاٱبْنَا خَالَةٍ [meaning Each of them two is a son of a maternal aunt of the other]; but one cannot say, ٱبْنَا عَمَّةٍ : (K:) and in like manner one says, ٱبْنَا عَمًّ ; but one cannot say, ٱبْنَا خَالٍ . A man's slaves, or servants, and other dependents; or slaves together with cattle, or camels and the like; or the cattle, camels and the like, and male and female slaves and other dependents, given to one by God.

[In the CK, النِّعَم is wrongly put for النَّعَم.]

Said to be from Form 2.

It is said to be an ism jamʿ, the singular being خَائِلٌ, though that word is used as singular and plural, masculine and feminine, and is sometimes used as a singular applied to a male slave or a female slave. But Fr says it is a plural [or ism jamʿ] of خَائِلٌ, meaning a pastor.

[This seems to be the primary meaning, from which come "a slave" and "slaves" and the like, as being given by God.]

The relationship of a maternal uncle [and of a maternal aunt]: (JK, S, K, TA:) an inf. n. (JK, TA) having no verb. (TA.) You say, بَيْنِى وَ بَيْنَهُ خُؤُولَةٌ [Between me and him is a relationship of maternal uncle]. (S, K.) Also a pl. of خَالٌ in the first of the senses assigned to the latter above. (Msb, K.)
