And خَبَلَ فُلَانٌ يَدَ فُلَانٍ Such a one corrupted, rendered unsound, vitiated, or disordered, the arm, or hand, of such a one, so that it became motionless; or caused it to dry up; or deprived him of it. And Wounds: (JK:) and خَبَلٌ signifies a wound: and is so explained as used in the saying, بَنُو فُلَانٍ يُطَالِبُونَنَا بِخَبَلٍ [The sons of such a one prosecute us for a wound]. (TA.) Core sense — a corrupt or disordered state, especially of the reason; insanity; loss, ruingenerated

1they would have added to you nothing but corruption and evilمَا زَادُوكُمْ إِلَّا خَبَالًا

A corrupt, unsound, or disordered state, in a general sense; said in the O and in the Mufradāt [of Er-Rāghib] to be the primary meaning; and so خَبَلٌ and خَبْلٌ, of which last the plural is خُبُولٌ [and particularly in the reason, or intellect: see خَبِلَ, of which it is a maṣdar]; and in actions, as well as in bodies and in minds.

Er-Rāghib: or, primarily, such as befalls an animal, causing it agitation like that of possession or insanity, through disease affecting the reason and thought; and so خَبَلٌ and خَبْلٌ.

Or خَبَلٌ means possession, or insanity; and so خَبْلٌ, خُبْلٌ and خَبَالٌ.

Or خَبَلٌ means an affection in the heart resembling possession or insanity; or great stupidity or foolishness, without possession or insanity. And خَبْلٌ also means a state, or quality, resembling possession or insanity, such as stupidity or foolishness, and heedlessness, or weakness of intellect, and the like.

In the Qur'ān 9:47.

they will not fall short, or be remiss, in corrupting your affairsلَا يَأْلُونَكُمْ خَبَالًا

In the same, 3:114.

O ye who believe! Take not into your intimacy those outside your ranks: They will not fail to corrupt you. They only desire your ruin: Rank hatred has already appeared from their mouths: What their hearts conceal is far worse. We have made plain to you the Signs, if ye have wisdom.

لَوْ خَرَجُوا۟ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمْ إِلَّا خَبَالًا وَلَأَوْضَعُوا۟ خِلَـٰلَكُمْ يَبْغُونَكُمُ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ وَفِيكُمْ سَمَّـٰعُونَ لَهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

If they had come out with you, they would not have added to your (strength) but only (made for) disorder, hurrying to and fro in your midst and sowing sedition among you, and there would have been some among you who would have listened to them. But Allah knoweth well those who do wrong.
