Form 1حَاقَ بِهِ2 senses
maṣdarحَيْقٌmuḍāriʿيَحِيقُ يَحُوقُ

Core sense — it beset him, it encompassed him; it clave to him, it befell himgenerated

1.1[And evil artifice shall not beset any save its authors]وَلَا يَحِيقُ المَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ

It surrounded, encompassed, or beset him or it; used only of evil.; maṣdar حَيْقٌ, حُيُوقٌ, and حَيَقَانٌ. [Also حاق به, maṣdar حَوْقٌ], and so is احاق به. Ibn-'Abbād.

So in the Qur'ān 35:41. Or the meaning is: shall not befall.

Ibn-'Arafeh; muḍāriʿ as above, maṣdar حَيْقٌ and حَاقٌ.

[And that at which they used to mock shall cleave to them, or be their due, or befall them; namely, the punishment at which they mocked.]وَحَاقَ بِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ
punishment beset them, and befell themحاق بِهِمُ العَذَابُ
trial, or trouble, beset himحاق بِهِ البَلَآءُ

But the evil results of their deeds overtook them, and that very (Wrath) at which they had scoffed hemmed them in.

39:48
وَبَدَا لَهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

For the evils of their Deeds will confront them, and they will be (completely) encircled by that which they used to mock at!

You say also, حاق بِهِمُ العَذَابُ Punishment beset them, and befell them. (S.) And حاق بِهِ البَلَآءُ Trial, or trouble, beset him. (TA in art. حق .) حاق فِيِ , (K,) inf. n. حَيْقٌ , (TA,) i. q. حاك . (K.)
