Form 1حَافَ1 sense
maṣdarحَيْفٌmuḍāriʿيَحِيفُ

Core sense — he acted wrongfully, unjustly, or tyrannically against himgenerated

Said of a judge or of any other person.

Or, as some say: he inclined [to what was wrong], or turned away [from what was right], in his judgment.

He should treat them equally, and not prefer some before others.

أَفِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَمِ ٱرْتَابُوٓا۟ أَمْ يَخَافُونَ أَن يَحِيفَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَرَسُولُهُۥ ۚ بَلْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

Is it that there is a disease in their hearts? or do they doubt, or are they in fear, that Allah and His Messenger will deal unjustly with them? Nay, it is they themselves who do wrong.

, aor. يَحِيفُ , (S, Msb,) inf. n. حَيْفٌ , (S, Msb, K,) He (a judge, or any other person, Msb) acted wrongfully, unjustly, injuriously, or tyrannically, (S, Msb, K,) عَلَيْهِ against him: (S:) or, as some say, he inclined [to that which was wrong], or declined [from that which was right], in his judgment. (TA.) حَيْفُ النَّاحِلِ means A man's giving to certain of his children exclusively of others: he should treat them equally, and not prefer some before others. (T, TA.)
