Aboo-Isḥák: or, and say, our petition is حِطَّةٌ, that is, that You would put down our sins from us.

Or, according to some, حِطَّة is a word which the children of Israel were commanded to say; and if they said it, their heavy burdens, or sins, were put down.

According to IAar it is the saying لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللّٰهُ; or, I' Ab: it means forgiveness.

Or: our affair is an alighting and staying in this town. There is another reading, وَ قُولُوا حِطَّةً, explained in two ways: either the verb governs the noun, as though he had said, and say a saying which will put down your heavy burdens, or sins, from you; or the noun is in the accusative as a maṣdar, meaning supplicating and petitioning that God may put down your heavy burdens, or sins, from you; that is, اُحْطُطِ ٱللَّهُمَّ أَوْزَارَنَا حِطَّةً.

But they changed this saying, using a Nabathean expression for it: هِطِّى سُمْهَاثًا, meaning "red wheat", according to Es-Suddee and Mujáhid; or, according to IAar, حِنْطَةً شُمْقَايَا, meaning "good wheat".

That is, الحِطَّةَ.
