muḍāriʿـُيَفْعُلُ·ـَيَفْعَلُmaṣdarحُصُولٌ حَصَلٌ
Core sense — it was produced, it happened, it remained over; a horse suffered from eating earthgenerated
1.1such a thing, or such a sum, was, or became, binding on him as a debt to me—حَصَلَ لِى عَلَيْهِ كَذَا
maṣdar حُصُولٌ and مَحْصُولٌ, like مَعْقُرلٌ and مَعْسُورٌ and مَيْسُورٌ.
[It was, or became, produced, educed, extracted, or fetched out; as gold or silver from the stone of the mine, the kernel from the shell, and wheat from the straw: see Form 2.] It came out; it became apparent; it existed, or came into being; it became realized.
Synonymous with the complete, that is attributive, كَانَ; see the article on كون.
It came, came to pass, happened, took place, or occurred; said of an event; synonymous with وَقَعَ, which is also synonymous with the complete, or attributive, كَانَ.
Er-Rāghib: it is likewise synonymous with جَآءَ; see the article on جيأ.
[It resulted, particularly as a sum, a product, or a quotient: it ensued: it arose, originated, proceeded, supervened, or accrued: in these senses it is also synonymous with the attributive كَانَ and with جَآءَ followed by مِنْ.]
It remained, and continued, when the rest had gone or passed away; said of a reckoning, of an action, and the like.
Same as ثَبَتَ and وَجَبَ, as in the saying that follows.
1.2he (a horse) had a complaint of his belly from eating the earth of the herbage—حَصِلَ
.
the beast ate earth, or pebbles, and they remained fixed inside it—حَصِلَتِ الدَّابَّةُ
maṣdar as above.
a horse's taking into his mouth earth from the herbs, some of which collects in his belly and kills him—حَصَلٌ
Or a camel's having pebbles that he has swallowed remaining in the omasum, so that they do not come forth in the cud when he ruminates; when this happens, they sometimes kill him. Or a young camel's eating earth, and so not ejecting the cud; which sometimes kills it.
A horse killed in this way is said to be حَصِلٌ.
1.2.1
Said of a boy, it signifies وَقَعَ الحَصَى, or وَقَعَتِ الحَصَاةُ فِى أُنْثَيَيْهِ [apparently meaning: the stones, or the stone, fell, or descended, into his scrotum].
Freytag, following the TK — in which فى انثييه is treated, on what authority I do not know, as meaning فى مَثَانَتِهِ — renders it “laboravit lapidibus in vesica urinæ orientibus”.
