Muḍāriʿ حَصِبَ and حَصُبَ. He threw pebbles, or small pebbles, at him; and hence, in a general sense, he pelted him.

Either this form or the first, or both; maṣdar تَحْصِيبٌ, which has an intensive meaning.

The thing thrown is حَصَب, that is, firewood and other such things.

[In one copy the reading is حَصُبَ, but this is probably a miscopying, as seems to be shown by the ism fāʿil being given there as مَحْصُوبٌ.]

, (S, A, Msb, K,) aor. حَصِبَ (S, A, Msb) and حَصُبَ , (Msb,) inf. n. حَصْبٌ , (Msb, TA,) He threw at him, or pelted him with, pebbles, (S, A,* K,) or small pebbles. (Msb.) And hence, in a general sense, He pelted him. (Har p. 234.) And حَصَبَتِ الرِّيحُ بِالحَصْبَآءِ [The wind cast, or drove along, or tore up, the pebbles, or small pebbles]. (A.) (K, KL.) The second of these verbs signifies as above, said of a person's skin. (S.)

2.2he (a pilgrim) slept, or stopped to sleep, in El-Moḥaṣṣabحصّب

El-Moḥaṣṣab is the way between the mountains opening on the part called الأَبْطَحُ, between Mekkeh and Minè; it is so named from the pebbles in it, and is also called الحَصْبَآءُ.

He stopped there for an hour, or a short time, of the night, on the way back from Minè to Mekkeh. This was once done in imitation of Moḥammad, but it is said to be voluntary, not obligatory.

Also: he slept at that place after going out from Mekkeh.

المُحَصَّبُ is also the name of the place in Minè where the pebbles are cast; it is also called حِصَابٌ.

Verily ye, (unbelievers), and the (false) gods that ye worship besides Allah, are (but) fuel for Hell! to it will ye (surely) come!

Those days are the 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhu-l-Ḥijjeh.

Each one of them We seized for his crime: of them, against some We sent a violent tornado (with showers of stones); some were caught by a (mighty) Blast; some We caused the earth to swallow up; and some We drowned (in the waters): It was not Allah Who injured (or oppressed) them:" They injured (and oppressed) their own souls.

54:34
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ
