Core sense — he directed his course towards it; he prevented it; he separated himself; he was angrygenerated

1.1I directed my course towards you—قَدْ حَرَدْتُ حَرْدَكَ

he directed himself, or his course, towards something; he made for it, aimed at it, sought it, or intended it; same as قَصَدَ.

On this explanation some render the words of the Qur'ān 68:25 وَغَدَوْا عَلَى حَرْدٍ قَادِرِينَ.

Like قَصَدْتُ قَصْدَكَ and أَقْبَلْتُ قِبَلَكَ.

A rájiz, Hassán, says: [A torrent advanced, that came by the command of God, tending to the fruitful garden]

he prevented, hindered, withheld, restrained, or forbade.

Maṣdar تَحْرِيدٌ.

On this explanation also some render the words of the Qur'ān quoted above, from حَارَدَتْ, said of she-camels: they became scanty in their supplies of milk.

Muḍāriʿ حَرِدَ or حَرُدَ [and apparently تحرّد and انحرد ]: he (a man) separated himself from others; he left his people and moved away from them; he withdrew from them and settled in a place by himself.

1.4he was, or became, angry—حَرِدَ

and حَرَدَ, so says Aboo-Nasr Ahmad Ibn-Hátim, companion of As; and حَرَدٌ.

This second form of the maṣdar is sometimes used, according to ISk, and it is the form AZ, AO and As heard from Arabs of chaste speech; both forms are chaste, though the first is the more common.

He was exasperated by one who angered him, and wanted to kill him.

The tendons of one of his fore legs were slackened by the cord with which the fore shank is sometimes bound up to the arm, or were so naturally, so that he shook his fore legs, or beat the ground with the fore leg, in walking.

Or the tendon of his arm was broken, so that his fore leg became slack and he never stopped shaking it. The tendon breaks only on the outer side of the arm, and the arm seems, when the camel walks or moves, as though it stretched, because he raises it so high from the ground and because of its slackness.

Or he (a beast) raised his legs very high in walking and put them down in the same place, because his step was very short.

(A, L.) حَرِدَ , (S, Msb, K,) aor. حَرَدَ , (S, K,) inf. n. حَرَدٌ , (S, Mgh, Msb,) He (a camel) had the disease termed حَرَدٌ [q. v.]: (K:) he had the tendons, or sinews, of one of his fore legs relaxed by the cord whereby the fore shank is sometimes bound up to the arm, or had them in that state naturally, (S, Mgh, Msb, *) so that he shook his fore legs, (S,) or so that he beat the ground [with the fore leg], (Mgh, Msb,) in walking, or going: (S, Mgh, Msb:) or he (a camel) had the tendon, or sinew, of his arm broken, so that his fore leg became lax, and he never ceased to shake it: the tendon, or sinew, breaks only in the outer side of the arm, and it [the arm] seems, when the camel walks or is in motion, as though it stretched, by reason of his raising it so high from the ground, and by reason of its laxness: (ISh, TA:) or he (a beast) raised his legs very high, in walking, or going, and put them down in their place, by reason of his being very short in his step. [The reeds, or canes, used in this way in building a roof are tied together in small bundles, each of which I have generally found to hold about five or six; over them is added a coat of plaster.]

Plural حَرَادِىُّ. A Nabathaean word, arabicized; you should not say هُرْدِىٌّ.
