Form 1حَدَقَهُ3 senses

(K, TA) بِعَيْنِهِ , aor. حَدِقَ , inf. n. حَدْقٌ , (TA,) He looked at it. (K, TA.) It is said in a trad., فَحَدَقَنِى القَوْمُ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ And the people, or party, cast the blacks of their eyes at me. (TA.) And حَدَقَهُ He, or it, hit, or hurt, the black of his eye. (K.) حَدَقَ , (K, TA,) aor. حَدِقَ , (TA,) inf. n. حُدُوقٌ , said of one that is dying ( مَيِّت ), He opened his eyes, and moved his eyelids, or twinkled with his eyes. (K.) (K.) You say of anything, احدق به as meaning It surrounded, encompassed, or encircled, it; (TA;) as, for instance, a house [or a wall] surrounds a garden. (Mgh.) [The meadow] became a حَدِيقَة [q. v.], (Zj, K,) [by producing herbs such as are termed عشب ; for] without عشب it is a روضة . (Zj, TA.)

This is the greater black of the eye; the smaller is the نَاظِر [or pupil], in which is what is termed إِنْسَانُ العَيْنِ, for it is like a mirror, in which one facing it sees his own figure.

[The part, of the eye, that is surrounded by the white; the iris, together with the whole of the anterior chamber of the eye;] what is in the middle of the white of the eye. Zj, in his “Khalk el-Insán.”

Or, as some say: externally, the black of the eye; and internally, its خَرَزَة [or lens].
