Nounجِيدٌ1 sense

Core sense — the neck, usually a woman's neck; the part where the necklace liesgenerated

1a female soft in respect of the neckلَيِّنَةُ الأَجْيَادِ

Of the measure فِعْلٌ, or it may be originally of the measure فُعْلٌ: the neck.

Sh said that it is used only in praise, and عُنُقٌ in dispraise, its use in the Qur'ān, chapter 111, being ironic. But according to Esh-Shiháb, the opposite is often the case.

Generally applied to that of a woman; or the part of the neck on which the necklace lies; or its fore part.

Plural [of pauc.] أَجْيَادٌ, and [of mult.] جُيُودٌ.

As though the term جِيدٌ applied to each distinct part of the neck, and the plural denoted the whole neck.
