Core sense — it ran, or flowed, said of water; he ran; it happened to himgenerated

Said of water and the like: it ran, or passed along quickly. Er-Rāghib: originally said of water. Or it flowed.

Synonymous with سَالَ; the opposite of وَقَفَ and of سَكَنَ.

In this last phrase an object is understood, and it is used of something disapproved or disliked; properly اجرى فِعْلَهُ إِلَيْه or اجرى فِعْلَهُ بِالقَصْدِ إِلَيْهِ.

Also a messenger, or person sent, who runs in an affair.

Er-Rāghib: it is weaker in meaning, or less chaste, than رَسُولٌ and وَكِيلٌ, which are given as its synonyms.
