Nounجُرْحٌ1 sense

Core sense — a woundgenerated

1a wound, in its original senseجَرْحٌ

A noun from جَرَحَ: a wound.

Some who are skilled in lexicology distinguish the two words: one is used of the effect produced upon bodies by iron instruments and the like, the other of the effect produced upon objects of the mind by the tongue.

Plural جُرُوحٌ and أَجْرَاحٌ [which is a plural of pauc.] and جِرَاحٌ; but the second of these is rare, and used only in poetry. [Regarding the third, see what follows.]

a woundجِرَاحَةٌ

This word has the same meaning as جُرْحٌ, and its plurals are جِرَاحٌ, جِرَاحَاتٌ, and جَرَائِحُ.

Or جِرَاحٌ is a collective generic noun, of which جِرَاحَةٌ is the ism waḥda; or, according to Az, this last has no singular sense, as Lth asserts it has, but is a plural of جُرْحٌ, just as حِجَارَةٌ is a plural of حَجَرٌ, جِمَالَةٌ of جَمَلٌ, and حِبَالَةٌ of حَبْلٌ.
