Core sense — he denied it; he was niggardly; it became scantygenerated
1.1he denied, or disacknowledged, his right, or due—
maṣdar جَحْدٌ and جُحُودٌ. He denied a thing; he disacknowledged it — in an absolute sense, whether he knew it to be other than as he represented it or not.
[Grammarians, and often others, use it of something past, or supposed or asserted to be past, and so in a more restricted sense than نَفَى.]
Maṣdars as above; [and جاحدهُ (see form 3 in art. كبر, where جاحَدَهُ is used in explaining كَابَرَهُ; and see what follows).]
This is said whether he knew the right to be such or did not know it; doing so is also called مُكَابَرَةٌ. But according to some, the verb is made transitive by means of ب only because it is made to imply the meaning of كَفَرَ.
he denied, or disacknowledged, his right, or due—بِحَقِّهِ
1.2he found him to be niggardly, or avaricious—
Or: he found him to possess little good, that is, to be either niggardly or poor.
1.3he (a man) became niggardly, or avaricious; he possessed little good—جَحِدَ
.
Or: his property became scattered and passed away. اجحد is used in both of these meanings.
1.3.1
It (anything) became little in quantity, or scanty.
1.3.2
It (a person's life) became strait and difficult.
1.3.3
It (a plant) became scanty and did not grow tall.
1.3.4the land became dry, and of no good—جَحِدَتِ الأَرْضُ
1.3.5[our year was, or became, one of little rain]—
See جَحِدٌ.

27:14
And they rejected those Signs in iniquity and arrogance, though their souls were convinced thereof: so see what was the end of those who acted corruptly!

Nay, here are Signs self-evident in the hearts of those endowed with knowledge: and none but the unjust reject Our Signs.

Thus are deluded those who are wont to reject the Signs of Allah.

Such is the requital of the enemies of Allah,- the Fire: therein will be for them the Eternal Home: a (fit) requital, for that they were wont to reject Our Signs.
