Maṣdar إِثَارَةٌ, إِثَارٌ, ثوّرهُ, and استثارهُ: he raised, roused, excited, stirred up, or provoked him or it — for instance an object of the chase or the like, a beast of prey, a lion, dust, smoke, or anything else; or he drew it forth.

استثارهُ is [often used in this last sense, or as meaning he disinterred it, exhumed it, or dug it up,] said of a thing buried; see the article سوع.

30:48

ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى يُرْسِلُ ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ فَتُثِيرُ سَحَابًا فَيَبْسُطُهُۥ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ وَيَجْعَلُهُۥ كِسَفًا فَتَرَى ٱلْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَـٰلِهِۦ ۖ فَإِذَآ أَصَابَ بِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦٓ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ

It is Allah Who sends the Winds, and they raise the Clouds: then does He spread them in the sky as He wills, and break them into fragments, until thou seest rain-drops issue from the midst thereof: then when He has made them reach such of his servants as He wills behold, they do rejoice!-

35:9

وَٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَرْسَلَ ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ فَتُثِيرُ سَحَابًا فَسُقْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ بَلَدٍ مَّيِّتٍ فَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلنُّشُورُ

It is Allah Who sends forth the Winds, so that they raise up the Clouds, and We drive them to a land that is dead, and revive the earth therewith after its death: even so (will be) the Resurrection!

100:4

[Truly I, in slaying Suleyk and then paying the price of his blood, am like the green substance on the surface of stale water, which is beaten when the cows loathe the water].

But according to others, by الثور the poet means the bull, for the cows follow him; the cows are not beaten, because they have milk, but the bull is beaten so that they may be frightened and so drink.

: see ثَوْرٌ . An excitement: so in the saying, اِنْتَظِرْ حَتَّى تَسْكُنَ هٰذِهِ الثَّوْرَةُ [Wait thou until this excitement become stilled]. (S.)
