Nounثَمَرٌ15 senses · 1 main

Core sense — fruit, the fruit of trees; property, or wealth; offspring, a childgenerated

1the fruit of trees; the several kinds of fruitثَمُرٌ
the fruit of trees; the several kinds of fruitثِيمَارٌ

[Collective generic nouns.] The fruit which a tree produces, whether it is eaten or not.

Plural of the first, ثِمَارٌ; plural of that plural, ثُمُرٌ; and plural of that in turn, أَثْمَارٌ.

The plural of أَثْمَارٌ is أَثَامِيرُ. Or ثُمُرٌ is the plural of ثَمَرٌ; or it may be the plural of ثَمَرَةٌ, because its form is commoner as the plural of a word of that form than of the form of ثِمَارٌ.

ثَمَرَةٌ is the ism waḥda of ثَمَرٌ, and ثَمُرَةٌ is that of ثَمُرٌ.

The plural of ثَمَرَةٌ is ثَمَرَاتٌ and ثَمْرَآءُ [or rather this last is an ism jamʿ].

ثَمُرَةٌ, which none but Sb mentions, has, according to him, no broken plural.

IHsh says that there is no word like ثَمَرٌ in its series of plurals except أَكَمٌ. See أَكَمَةٌ.

1.1figurative · مجازproperty, or wealth, increased and multipliedثَمَرٌ

Also written ثَمُرٌ, ثُمْرٌ, ثَمَارٌ, ثِيمَارٌ, or ثَيْمَارٌ; of the last three, the first is disapproved by several writers, and some say that it stands for ثَمَرٌ, the second vowel being lengthened for the sake of the metre.

I'Ab: various kinds of property or wealth, increased and multiplied, and gained, or acquired, for oneself.

According to Mujáhid, ثَمَرٌ in the Qur'ān means fruit, and ثَمُرٌ property, or wealth; but Yoo did not accept this, apparently holding both to mean the same.

In the Qur'ān 18:32, AA read ثُمْرٌ and explained it as meaning kinds of property or wealth.
