Er-Rāghib: it means أُسْقِطَتْ ثلّة مِنْهُ [perhaps a company of men was made to fall away from him].

El-'Otbee says that عرش here has two meanings: a throne, and a booth, or shed, made for shade. See art. عرش.

You say also, ثُلَّ عَرْشُهُ and عُرْشُهُ , meaning He was slain: and a poet says, of a sword, ثَلَّ عُرْشَيْهِ , meaning [It severed] the base of his neck; the part where his neck was set on his back. (IDrd, M.) And ثَلَّ , (As, S, M, K,) aor. as above, (As, S, M,) inf. n. ثَلٌّ (As, S, M, K) and ثَلَلٌ , (As, S, K,) He killed, or destroyed, (As, S, M, K,) a man, (As, S,) or men. (M, K.) A 'Obeyd: and the space around the mouth of a well on which the earth taken out of it is thrown; when the well has been dug in a place that is nobody's property, this space belongs to the owner of the well alone.

Aboo-Yoosuf: wool together with goats' hair and camels' hair, but not the second of these alone, nor the third alone.

كِسَآءٌ جِيِّدُ الثَّلَّةِ is said to mean a كساء of good wool.

[A clever woman is not without wool to spin or weave when she has nothing else to do]—لَا تَعْدَمُ صَنَاعٌ ثَلَّةً
such a one has much wool, goats' hair, and camels' hair—عِنْدَ فُلَانٍ ثَلَّةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ

A proverb, applied to a skilful man.

Aboo-Yoosuf: goats' hair here is شعر and camels' hair وبر.

such a one has much hair on his body—فُلَانٌ كَثِيرُ الثَّلَّةِ

This is sometimes the meaning.

A flock of sheep or goats, whether many or few; or many of them; or specially a flock of sheep; or sheep absolutely; or a numerous flock of sheep; and numerous sheep and goats together.

Aboo-Yoosuf: many goats are not called this, but are called حَيْلَةٌ.

Plural ثِلَلٌ, which is irregular, and ثِلَالٌ.

In relation to the times of camels' coming to water: the interval of two days between two drinkings, that is, keeping from water for two days.

In the copies of the K, فى is omitted, and مَوَارِدُ is put for مَوَارِدِ.

Golius and Freytag wrongly write the word مَثَلَّةٌ and explain it as “Locus ubi aquantur cameli postquam per biduum non biberint.”

The earth that is taken forth from a well: (T, S, M, K:) and the mud that is taken forth from the bottom of a well: (M:) and the space upon which is cast the earth taken forth from a well, around its mouth; which space, when the well has been dug in a place that is not the property of any one, belongs exclusively to the owner of the well: (A 'Obeyd, T:) pl. ثُلَلٌ . (K.) ثَلَّةٌ مَثْلُولَةٌ A grave ( تُرْبَةٌ ) filled up with earth, after it has been dug. (T.)
