1figurative · مجاز[Blindness of the eyes is a lighter thing than blindness of the perceptive faculties of the mind]عَمَى الأَبْصَارِ أَهُونُ مِنْ عِمَى البَصَائِرِ

Mental perception; the perceptive faculty of the mind, as also بَصَرٌ; knowledge, as also بَصَرٌ and اِسْتِبْصَارٌ; understanding; intelligence; skill.

البَصِيرَةُ means الاِ سْتِبْصَارُ فِى الشَّىْءِ, which implies all the meanings above; see Form 10. And بَصَرُ القَلْبِ likewise means mental perception, or vision, or view; an idea or opinion occurring to the mind.

The plural of بَصِيرَةٌ is بَصَائرُ, and the plural of بَصَرٌ in the same sense is أَبْصَارٌ.

Sometimes it is opposed to بَصَرٌ, as in the examples that follow.

[O sons of Háshim, you are afflicted in your eyes]هَاشِمٍ تُصَابُونَ فِى أَبْصَارِكُمْ يَابَنِى

And hence: blood, or some of it, by which one is guided to an animal that has been shot, or to knowledge of it; or blood upon the ground — what sticks on the ground, not on the body; what adheres to the body is called جَدِيَّةٌ.

Or a portion of blood the size of a dirhem; or what is of a round form, like a shield; or what is of an oblong form; or what is of the size of the فِرْسِن, the foot, of the camel — in all these explanations blood is meant; or blood that is not flowing; or what flows of it at one single time; or a portion of blood that glistens; and, as some say, the blood of a virgin; and blood-revenge; and a fine for homicide.

Plural بَصَائِرُ as above; and بَصِيرٌ, which occurs in a verse cited by AHn, may also be a plural of بَصِيرَةٌ applied to blood, or rather a collective generic noun of which بصيرة is the ism waḥda, as شَعِيرٌ is of شَعِيرَةٌ; or it may be for بصيرة, the ة being dropped by poetic licence; or it may be a dialectal variant of بصيرة, as one says بَيَاضٌ and بَيَاضَةٌ.

El-Asʿar El-Joafee says: [They went with their blood upon their shoulder-blades; but my blood, a ready and swift and strong horse runs with it]

Akh says that it is like saying to a man أَنْتَ حُجَّةٌ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ; the ة is added because the members of the body are meant by it, or to give intensiveness to the meaning, as in عَلَّامَةٌ and رَاوِيَةٌ; or because the meaning is عَيْنٌ بَصِيرَةٌ.
