Or, of the first verb: he squandered his wealth or property, or anything else, by extravagant spending, and destroyed, consumed, wasted, or ruined it. [In the CK, جَرَّبَهُ is here put for خَرَّبَهُ; in the M it is أَفْسَدَهُ.]

It includes the meaning of أَسْرَفَ in its common use, and is used in the proper sense of that verb.

Or, as some say, تَبْذِيرٌ means going beyond bounds as to the right objects of spending, which is ignorance of the right manner and of the things that should prevent it, while إِسْرَافٌ means going beyond bounds as to quantity, and is ignorance of the values of the right objects. وَءَاتِ ذَا ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَٱلْمِسْكِينَ وَٱبْنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِيرًا

And render to the kindred their due rights, as (also) to those in want, and to the wayfarer: But squander not (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift.
