Form 1بَجَسَ المَآءَ2 senses
muḍāriʿـُيَفْعُلُ·ـِيَفْعِلُmaṣdarبَجْسٌ

Core sense — he opened a way for the water to flow forthgenerated

1.1He (namely, God) made the water flow forth, or flow forth copiously, from the cloud or clouds, and from the springبجّس الَمآءِ

He opened a way, passage, vent, or channel for the water to flow forth; he gave it vent; he made it flow. Muḍāriʿ بَجُسَ and بَجِسَ; synonymous with فَجَرَهُ, فَتَحَهُ, or شَقَّهُ, all of which here mean the same.

The same is said of a wound, but there the phrase is figurative.

Maṣdar تَبْجِيسٌ; synonymous with فَجَّرَهُ.

It (water) had a way, passage, vent, or channel opened for it to flow forth; it had vent; it poured forth; [it burst forth]; from a cloud or clouds, and from a spring, and from a rock. (Kur 7:160.)

Muḍāriʿ بَجُسَ and تبجّس. The first and the last are synonymous with اِنْفَجَرَ, or the last with تَفَجَّرَ [properly meaning it poured forth copiously].

We divided them into twelve tribes or nations. We directed Moses by inspiration, when his (thirsty) people asked him for water: "Strike the rock with thy staff": out of it there gushed forth twelve springs: Each group knew its own place for water. We gave them the shade of clouds, and sent down to them manna and quails, (saying): "Eat of the good things We have provided for you": (but they rebelled); to Us they did no harm, but they harmed their own souls.Abdullah Yusuf Ali, The Holy Qur’ān (1934)
