Form 1أَلِمَ1 sense
muḍāriʿـَيَفْعَلُmaṣdarأَلَمٌ

Core sense — he was in pain, he achedgenerated

These are like سَفِهَ رَأْيَهُ and رَشِدْتَ أَمْرَكَ and وَجِعْتَ رَأْسَكَ, the noun being in the accusative case according to Ks as an explicative, though explicatives are [by rule] indeterminate, as in قَرِرْتُ بِهِ عَيْنًا and ضَقْتُ بِهِ ذَرْعًا; the regular form is [أَلِمَ بَطْنُهُ and] أَلِمَ بَطْنُكَ, since the verb is intransitive.

Said of the belly, or of the head, or of a man: he was in pain, had pain, ached.

And slacken not in following up the enemy: If ye are suffering hardships, they are suffering similar hardships; but ye have Hope from Allah, while they have none. And Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.

He was, or became, pained; or he expressed pain, grief, or sorrow; he lamented, complained, or moaned. Synonymous with تَوَجَّعَ and شَكَى.

You say, تَأَلَّمَ فُلَانٌ مِنْ فُلَانٍ [Such a one expressed pain, &c., on account of the conduct or the like of such a one; complained of such a one]: (T:) and لِأَزْمَةِ الزَّمَانِ [on account of the hardness of the time]. Pain; ache; also أَيْلَمَةٌ; plural آلَامٌ.

That is, وَجَعًا; so says AZ. IAar gives أَيْلَمَةً وَلَا أَلَمَةً with the same meaning.

I will certainly bring distress, or difficulty, upon youأَيْلَمَةٍ لَأُبِيتَنَّكَ عَلَى

The Arabs say this; literally, I will make you pass the night in distress.

Pain; ache; (T, S, M, K;) as also أَيْلَمَةٌ : (T, M, K:) pl. (of the former, T, M) آلَامٌ . (T, M, K.) You say, مَا أَجِدُ أَيْلَمَةً وَلَا أَلَمًا I do not find pain nor ache; i. e. وَجَعًا : so says AZ: and IAar says, أَيْلَمَةً وَلَا أَلَمَةً as meaning the same. (T.)
