maṣdarمُؤَاسَاةٌ
Core sense — I shared my property with him, I made him equal with myselfgenerated
3.1he made me an object of imitation to him by giving me of his property—آسَانِى
. I made him my object of imitation in respect of my property, meaning I made myself like him; or I made him an object of imitation with my property, I imitating his example and he imitating mine.
وَاسَيْتُهُ is a dialectal variant, but of weak authority.
I make him the object of my own imitation and so share my property with him—أُوَاسِيهِ
Thus he reduces himself to my condition in some degree while in the same degree raising me to his.
Thus written, without a second ء.
he gave him of his property and made him an object of imitation in respect of it—آساهُ بِمَالِهِ
Or only of food sufficient for his need, not of what is more than enough. Hence the saying رَحِمَ ٱللّٰهُ رَجُلًا أَعْطَى مِنْ فَضْلٍ وَوَاسَى مِنْ كَفَافٍ: may God have mercy on a man who has given of what was more than enough, and has imparted food only sufficient for need, so making himself equal with the one to whom he imparts it.
he shared with him; he became equal with him—آساهُ
المُوَاسَاةُ occurs often in the traditions, meaning the sharing with another, or making another share with one, in the means of subsistence; and it is originally المُؤَاسَاةُ, with ء also, meaning the being, or becoming, equal with another.
I made him equal with myself—آسَيْتُهُ بِنَفْسِي
In the dialect of El-Yemen, وَاسَيْتُهُ.
make the people share alike, one with another, in your consideration and regard—آسِ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فِى وَجْهِكَ
such a one does not make such a one share with him—مَا يُؤَاسِي فُلَانٌ فُلَانًا
This occurs in a letter of 'Omar. Some say it means: make them equal in this respect.
This is explained in three different ways. El-Mufaddal Ibn-Mohammad: such a one does not make such a one share with him. El-Muärraj: does not do good to such a one, from the saying of the Arabs آسِ فُلَانًا بِخَيْرٍ, do good to such a one. Others: does not give such a one any return for his love, or for his relationship, from الأَوْسُ meaning العَوْضُ, originally يُؤَاوِسُهُ, then يُؤَاسِوُهُ, and then يُؤَاسِيهِ; or it may be from أَسَوْتُ الجُرْحَ.
