Qur’ān 3:11 Lane quotes this verse
كَدَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ(Their plight will be) no better than that of the people of Pharaoh, and their predecessors: They denied our Signs, and Allah called them to account for their sins. For Allah is strict in punishment.Abdullah Yusuf Ali, The Holy Qur’ān (1934)
1.1.12figurative · مجاز — inferredhe punished, or chastised, him for his sin, or offence—أَخَذَهُ بِذَنْبِهِ

Maṣdar مُؤَاخَذَةٌ.
he was restrained and requited and punished for his sin, or offence—أُخِذَ بِذَنْبِهِ
Or, according to some, أَخَذَ means he wiped out, or exterminated, while آخذ means he punished without wiping out.
In place of آخذ some say وَاخَذَ, which some do not allow; others say it is a good form, of the dialect of El-Yemen, and used by certain of the seven readers of the Qur'an in لَا يُوَاخِذُكُمُ ٱللّٰهُ (2:225 and 5:91). In that dialect the maṣdar is مُوَاخَذَةٌ and the imperative وَاخِذْ.

This is the more common form; فِي الحَزْمِ occurs in the article on حوط in the K. Like أَخَذَ بِالثِّقَهِ, it also means he took the sure course in his affair.
he took care; he became cautious, or vigilant—أَخَذَ حِذْرَهُ
he took to, followed, or adhered to, what such a one said—أَخَذَ بِمَا قَالَ فُلَانٌ
See Har p. 367, where it is said that اخذ, used in this way, is made transitive by means of ب because it carries the meaning of تَشَبَّثَ.
Lane cites “Bd in iv. 73” — a commentary, not the verse; no modern number is given
1.1.15he took to, set about, or began, doing such a thing—أَخَذَ يَفْعَلُ كَذَا
